CClub & Demosplash IRC have moved.

tl;dr: as of 2021-05-19, freenode is royally screwed; as of 2021-05-23, we're officially on libera.chat; as of 2021-06-15, we are no longer on freenode in any capacity

Connect to irc.libera.chat over port 6697 with TLS. More details and other options.

Computer Club – #cmucc

You can find the old freenode/##cclub community at libera/#cmucc. (See tweet.)
We took the network move as an opportunity to rename and register as a community channel.
The cmucc.org/irc redirect has been updated accordingly.

Demosplash – #demosplash

You can find the old freenode/##demosplash community at libera/#demosplash. Note, only one # now. (See tweet.)
We took the network move as an opportunity to register as a community channel.
The demosplash.org/chat redirect has been updated accordingly.

One link to join both in webchat!

The future…

In the immediate term, we intend for the old channels to formally remain available, though only as secondary/backup channels for official communications. In case the status of the old channels may change without our input, please check the listed ops to ensure the channel remains under club control. This stance is informed by further repeated abuses apparently directed by the new freenode management at any projects or communities perceived to be attempting to leave that network. Our communities' decisions to migrate their official primary IRC channels to libera.chat were formed by voluntary consensus which pre-dates the sudden and profound changes to freenode policy that attempt to legitimize various instances of erratic and abusive behavior by the new freenode management.

As of 2021-06-15, due to the new freenode management's decision to abruptly drop all registrations by completely replacing the entire network over a span of less than 24 hours, the old freenode channels are no longer under club control. They will no longer be used for official purposes.

Our primary discussions are now on libera.chat. Please join us there if you can. We might start adding subchannels there and/or bridging IRC channels to other chat platforms to help us better foster more cohesive communities around both the club and the event. More to come.
