Event planning is still in progress, and this page will be updated as events are scheduled.

Chiptune Concert

This year, chiptune musician Inverse Phase will be joining us for a live concert! Join us for a performance of original music written on the Sega Genesis (and maybe some surprise bonus material), as well as a "Chiptune 101" presentation, geared for both beginners and seasoned scene veterans alike. He'll also have music and stickers with him, should you like to take some home, and an in-progress custom chiptune synthesizer he is building from scratch will be on display.

Talks and Workshops

Come to hear engaging discussions on topics across the demoscene.

Chiptune 101

How is bitty formed? How computer get chiptune? The answers to these questions and more await you at Demosplash's exciting chiptune presentation by Inverse Phase, intended for both beginners and seasoned scene veterans alike! The presentation will cover what a chiptune is, the history of music in computers and consoles, and examples of (old/new/easy/hard) tools used to write them.

Introductory Democoding with ShaderToy

ShaderToy is an online platform by iq/BeautyPi that pumps bits of your choice to the screen and speaker. ShaderToy takes all the grunt work out of real-time graphics and sound, but translating your creative vision into a running, awesome demo is up to you. Plus, there's a catch: your toolbox includes only basic mathematical operations. No OOP, no malloc, not even any print! With that kind of foundation, how will you ever build the monument that is your latest and greatest prod? cxw/Incline will get you started up the ladder toward ShaderToy mastery. He will introduce techniques he used in the second-place PC demo from @party 2016. It's his first ShaderToy demo, so he is well-placed to answer questions about his experience starting from square zero. Topics will include "what on earth is a shader?", constructing and organizing multiple scenes, shader coding in the GLSL language, and basic chiptune synthesis. cxw will give a live demonstration of some oldschool effects and at least one poly! Time permitting, he will also introduce lighting, texturing, and using Python to expand your artistic scope.

Music Composition and Tracker Workshop

The tracker is a music composition tool used by chiptune and demoscene composers alike. Inverse Phase will briefly introduce the tracker and its components, and then write a chiptune live! Feel free to bring a laptop and follow along! You can install the freely available Milkytracker and Deflemask which are available for all modern operating systems.
